The German Medical Center, shortly DMZ, in Voronezh,
Russian Federation, was created as a collaboration between German and Russian doctors. The processes of diagnosis and treatment follows a concept developed by German doctors and also the layout of the clinic organization was developed in close consultation with the medical team.

The DMZ was located in an existing building complex. To meet the demands of the doctors as well as to comply with German and especially Russian standards, a necessary and extensive renovations of the premises were carried out. Integrated into a heterogeneous building complex, the premises of the clinic extend in three building structures over several floors of different heights.  As a vertical connection axis (access route) the new staircase links the clinic via a foyer to other parts of the building complex. The open staircase is distinguish by material and form from the existing building, it also marks the main entrance and forms a linkage of the 5 main areas of the DMZ: Polyclinic, rehabilitation area, surgery area, inpatient care and management.

In addition to the treatment pathways an open and confidence-inspiring character was influential in the floor plan organization. The colors are chosen deliberately discreet and are therefore in contrast to the polychrome corporate identity of the clinic, which facilitates by Signage system and clothing of personnel orientation and highlights features.
